Introduction to Elizabethan Hair & The Brief

I'm really excited about coming back to hair after many years of working in retail. I wanted to be a hairdresser after completing a very short module in my college course that covered the very, very basics of hairdressing. We were taught how to wash and blowdry, curl using tongs, straighten hair, set with rollers, plait, buns and basic updos. I loved this part of my course. I sought out an apprenticeship in hairdressing when I was 18 but due to my age (meaning they would have to pay me more than the basic apprentice wage) I was turned away from each one.

I think that we pay a lot attention to our hair now. I've always been told by my dear great grandma that a girl needs to have : Good Hair, Good Skin and Good Teeth. So I'd be told off if my hair wasn't in a good condition.

At first the brief seemed completely overwhelming but with the pace Lottie teaches at (which I love) everything seems completely doable. I've got a few designs scribbled down already and I've even spoken to Lottie about how to achieve certain looks. I think there are some people who are really nervous of the hair section of our course because they don't have any form of background in it, which I feel is completely reasonable.

I've been practising on the terrifying block that is my Katie head and I've had some promising results. I'm really looking forward to progressing with this Unit. I love how easy it is to spot Elizabethan influences in modern hairstyles and trends.

I can't wait to look back and see my confidence grow throughout this Unit!
